The school is engaging with Pharma Manufacturing in the region, with an emphasis on partnership with the manufacturing sector.  It needs your support.

North East Futures UTC needs your help ………… to build skills for the future of your organisation, provide career direction for young people and drive prosperity in our region

It’s impossible to imagine a prosperous future for the North East without the successful creation of an innovative, knowledge-based economy. Every single advancing region across the world is striving for this and we need to create the right conditions for success here.

We can’t build our key growth sectors without a workforce equipped with advanced skills. That’s why we need your help to develop a new school for 14-18 year-olds, North East Futures University Technical College (UTC).

North East Futures UTC is a secondary school for 600 14-18 year olds from across the North East. Based beside Central Station on the Stephenson Quarter in Newcastle, it will provide a broad, forward-looking curriculum to GCSE & A-level, as well as high level complementary technical qualifications. It will focus on two key employment sectors, Information Technology and Health Sciences.

A significant proportion of curriculum time will see students working on real projects set by employers so that they can apply their scientific and technological knowledge and skills in contemporary workplace settings.

Key regional employers will work directly with teachers and students (and parents) to go beyond the usual, often fragmented employer involvement with schools. Current employer engagement is well-meaning but is not yet providing the quality and quantity of skilled people that the region really needs in its most important sectors. To recruit its students, North East Futures will reach across the region from Northumberland through to Durham and including the whole of Tyneside & Wearside. It is planned to open in September 2018.

As part of the development of the school we need input and insight from parents and stakeholders across the region. And that’s where you come in:

We would like you to facilitate the use of your internal communication systems to share a brief questionnaire with your employees to get their feedback on our plans for North East Futures UTC. The survey is open now and concludes on March 31st. The questionnaire is quick to complete and can be accessed very easily on the homepage at nefuturesutc.co.uk

We are supported in this consultation by our influential sponsors and supporters, Accenture, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Ubisoft, The University of Sunderland, The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; and through key networks like NECC, Dynamo, RTC North, AHSN and FirstforPharma, but we need to reach as many people as possible to get the best insights. Thank you for helping us reach into the North East community through your own organization.

The people involved in leading the UTC are committed to the region, understand its challenges, and are aware of what its employers need. With the insights of as many employees and families as we can reach, we will be able to develop a truly outstanding employer-led secondary school here in the North East.
